With social media solidifying itself as a necessary form of communication in today’s society, Erica stays updated on all of the latest social media trends and with social media networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Tumblr. By interacting with these sites, she is frequently looking for the next best thing in social media in order to gain a leading edge in an increasingly growing form of communication.
From 2013-2015, Erica worked as the Online Activism Manager for the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), a labor union with more than 500,000 members in the United States and Canada. In this role Erica managed the union’s international social media accounts and website. Also, she produced LIUNA’s ‘Renewing Lives’ video series, which tells the stories of union members overcoming hardships. She has interviewed more than 20 union members who have worked on California solar projects and the World Trade Center One for this series. Along with managing LIUNA’s social media and producing videos, Erica conducted trainings for the organization’s leaders on reaching target audiences online, web trends, branding using social media and how to set up social media for organizations and businesses.
Erica worked as Communications Intern with KaBOOM! in 2012. In this role she had the responsibility of merging media relations with social media. In order to accomplish this she developed a social media/media outreach Twitter account on behalf of the organization to engage and pitch stories to media outlets on social media. Erica was successfully able to place stories on behalf of the organization in the top 20 DMAs.
In 2012, Erica worked as an intern in the Innovation to Intern Program (IIP) at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). She created and manages the official internal blog for the Office of Human Resources and Administration, which has an audience approximately 700 VA employee readers. Erica also manages the social media networking accounts for the Johnson C. Smith University Washington Metropolitan Area Alumni Chapter. She manages their Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts.
In 2010, Erica established the Facebook account for the League of Women Voters Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Erica also maintained the Twitter and Facebook accounts of the Black Ink Monks poetry organization through 2008-2011.
